Introduction

Theodore Roosevelt was a very important person in U.S. history. He did many things for the benefit of America.

Rough Riders

Rough Riders were a regiment during the Spanish American War led by Theodore Roosevelt in 1898. They wore khaki shirts, a blue bandana with white polka dots that they wore as a neckerchief. They pulled it up over their faces when it was windy. The Rough Riders also wore a pin that showed two swords crossed over each over each other. Very few of the bandanas I mentioned before made it. Teddy wore his bandana when he was being elected governor. That caught the public’s eye. That is what the Rough Riders wore during The Spanish American War.

Theodore Roosevelt's Childhood

As a child Teddy was often sick. He was born to a wealthy family. He was sick with asthma. Most of his childhood was spent in bed. He studied natural history when he was in bed. Being that Roosevelt was so weak from his sickness he practiced boxing. His father also got him a personal trainer. That is what Theodore Roosevelt’s childhood was like.

Sagamore Hill

Theodore Roosevelt lived in Sagamore Hill for many years. Roosevelt and his family loved vacationing in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York. One day while he was on vacation Roosevelt found a nice piece of land that was being sold cheaply for the size of it. He bought it and named it Sagamore Hill because of the big hill it was located on. The house was complete with a dining room, a nursery for the children, a mother’s room that only Mrs. Roosevelt would go in and a parlor. Sagamore Hill is currently protected by the National Parks Committee.

Teddy's Life

Of all the presidents in the United States one sticks out. Theodore Roosevelt was born in N.Y. City on October 27, 1858. As a child, Teddy was often sick and in bed. Abraham Lincoln was Teddy’s favorite President, in 1865 Roosevelt watched Lincoln’s funeral from his grandfather’s upstairs window. From 1875 to 1880 Theodore Roosevelt attended Harvard University. In 1880 to 1882 Teddy attended Columbia Law School but did not become a lawyer. On October 27, 1880 he married Alice Hathaway Lee on his 22nd birthday. In 1880, Teddy also joined the Republican Party. On November 8, 1881 Teddy was elected into the New York Assembly. He was the youngest person to be voted into the Assembly. On August 1, 1882 he joined the National Guard. On September 14, 1901 Teddy became the 26th President of the United States. On January 6, 1919 he died in his sleep.
